Rethinking Cryogenic Storage
Maximally Isolated Sys.
Maximally Isolated Systems is developing Super Dewar, a patent-pending cryogenic storage system designed to reduce heat ingress, improve storage efficiency and make cryogenic sample handling easier and safer.

Cryogenic storage still has fundamental limitations.

Liquid nitrogen storage vessels continuously absorb heat from their surroundings. This causes liquid nitrogen to evaporate and creates the need for monitoring and refilling. But evaporation isn't the only problem. Traditional systems involve persistent operational, safety, and sample integrity challenges across modern laboratories.
Operational & Safety Burden
Frequent monitoring and refilling, heavy racks, difficult sample retrieval, and operator safety concerns.Storage Inefficiency & Risk
Inefficient use of internal cylindrical space, manual sample tracking, and risk to valuable biological materials. One Vessel. Three Problems Redesigned.
Step 01
Thermal Performance
A redesigned thermal architecture intended to reduce heat transfer into the cryogenic environment.
Step 02
Storage Efficiency
Storage designed around the cylindrical shape of the vessel rather than rectangular boxes inside a round container.
Step 03
Human Interaction
A storage architecture intended to reduce heavy rack lifting and simplify access to samples.
Promising small-scale results. Commercial-scale validation is next.
We asked cryogenic users what they actually need.
Suggesting high interest in the community for Super Dewar adoption.
Strong user intent confirming the demand for next-generation cryogenic vessels.
LOI secured from one of the largest animal genetics companies in the world.
Patent protection underway in Canada and the United States.
CIPO & USPTO Patent Filings
Priority patent applications filed with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the USPTO for our basic design. Additional design patents planned for 2027.
Independent Prior-Art Review
A preliminary patentability search commissioned through patent counsel concluded that the search did not identify a single reference disclosing all aspects, confirming strong novelty arguments.
Confidential Review Under CDA
Comprehensive patentability report, detailed architectural claims, and feature combinations are available for review under confidential disclosure agreement.

Born from a Real Laboratory Problem
During the lockdown, a missed refill caused the loss of a valuable Dewar in our founder's lab. Instead of accepting that limitation, he began asking whether the vessel itself could be redesigned.
